URL Encoder / Decoder
Convert text to a URL-safe format and back. Encode spaces and special characters into %XX sequences, or decode an encoded URL to readable text. Everything runs in your browser.
What is URL encoding?
URLs can only contain a limited set of characters, so anything else — spaces, accents, &, ?, # — must be "percent-encoded" as a % followed by two hex digits. A space becomes %20, for example. Encoding keeps query strings and links from breaking; decoding turns them back into readable text.
Encode component vs. whole URL
Use component encoding (encodeURIComponent) for a single query value or path segment — it encodes reserved characters like & and = too. Use the default for a whole URL, which keeps those structural characters intact. Toggle the checkbox to switch modes.

Frequently asked questions
What does %20 mean in a URL?
%20 is the percent-encoded form of a space. URL encoding replaces spaces and other unsafe characters with a % and two hex digits.
When should I use encodeURIComponent?
Use it for individual query-string values or path segments, since it also encodes &, =, ? and #. For a full URL, use standard encoding so those structural characters stay intact.
Is my text uploaded?
No. Encoding and decoding happen entirely in your browser.
