Tip Calculator
Figure out the tip and total in seconds, and split the bill evenly between any number of people. No math, no awkward table moment.
How to calculate a tip
To find a tip, multiply the bill by the tip percentage as a decimal. A 20% tip on a $60 bill is 60 × 0.20 = $12, for a total of $72. To split it, divide the total by the number of people. This calculator does all of that instantly and updates as you type.
How much should you tip?
- Restaurants (table service): 15–20% is standard in the US; 18% is a common default.
- Exceptional service: 20–25%.
- Cafés, takeout, bars: a smaller tip or rounding up is typical.
- Other countries: customs vary widely — in many places a service charge is already included, so check the bill first.
Splitting the bill fairly
The quick way is an even split — total divided by the number of people, which this tool shows as "per person". For uneven orders, some groups tip as a percentage of the whole bill and then each person pays their own items plus a share of the tip. When in doubt, an even split is the simplest and friendliest option.
